About AD99 Solutions
Extensive research has empirically captured the racial inequalities and disparities of Pittsburgh's African American youth and communities. According to a Pittsburgh Foundation study (2018), young people ages 12 to 24 are more likely to face diminished prospects from living in poverty conditions, including having a higher risk of juvenile justice system involvement. In 2018 alone, more than 3,000 juveniles were funneled through the Allegheny County court system. Of those youths, more than 75% were African American or in another minority category.
Pittsburgh's Inequality Across Gender and Race report found that, along with high school police referral rates and low college admissions enrollments, African American males suffer higher occupational, racial, and health disparities than the national average (Pittsburgh's Gender Equity Commission, 2019). African American males ages 18 to 24 have higher mortality rates and are 42 times more likely than their white counterparts to be murdered. Too often inner-city males have unfavorable outcomes, making the services AD99 Solutions provides imperative.
AD99 Solutions was founded in 2019 by three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and Pittsburgh native Aaron Donald. Growing up in Pittsburgh's Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar neighborhood, Aaron saw firsthand the positive impact athletics had on him and his peers. Also recognizing the importance of accessibility to quality education, good nutrition, and community involvement, Aaron sought to launch an organization that prepares Pittsburgh's underprivileged youth for life-long success.
The mission of AD99 Solutions is to change the trajectory of Pittsburgh's most vulnerable youth by providing necessary resources in a free, safe environment where they can be empowered to excel academically, socially, and athletically.
The vision of AD99 Solutions is to be a recognized nonprofit leader, providing Pittsburgh’s underserved youth, families, and communities with education, a trusted advocacy platform, and tangible and intangible resources.
